What to Look For in a Wedding Videographer

When planning your wedding, the process can often feel overwhelming - from choosing between vendors, managing your families' expectations to selecting colours. When so many vendors can offer similar services, how do you choose?

To make your wedding planning a little easier, we've put together a list of the key things to look for when selecting a wedding videographer.

Do Your research

Websites and social media offer you the chance to find testimonials and examples of previous wedding videos. Like anything else, the more you see, the more you'll discover what you like. You may find that you prefer the more cinematic, elegant styling over a more rustic feel, for example.

Understanding Your Intentions

When you're looking at videographers, ask yourself, 'why do I want my wedding filmed?'

Do you want to relive your vows? Do you want to see the moments you missed? Do you want something to share with your loved ones who couldn't make the day?

Once you have your answer - and it could be one or all of the above - you will understand what you need and can communicate this to your potential videographers. If you want something shareable, then a shorter film of up to five minutes is ideal for social media. If you want every moment captured, look for a documentary-style film.

Making the Most of Your Venue

If you've selected a wedding venue with sprawling grounds and luscious terraces, you'll want to incorporate those beautiful backdrops into your wedding film. Ensure that your potential videographer can use drone and aerial technology as a part of your wedding package.

How You Feel

The most important thing to remember when booking any of your wedding suppliers is that you will be working with them throughout the planning process.

It's essential that you have a rapport with your suppliers - that you feel you can trust them and can communicate clearly what you are looking to achieve. There is an element of gut instinct here - always trust yours.

Previous Work

Many videographers showcase the shorter, Trailer Films or Wedding Films on their websites and social media to keep running speeds consistent. If you're considering a more extended Feature Film or Documentary Film, then ask to see examples so you can assess if it's the right fit for you.

Style

Every wedding videographer has their own style; something that makes them unique. Read through the content on your shortlisted suppliers' websites and try to understand what their style is.

At Odicci, we take inspiration from cinematography and luxury fashion editorial to create a beautiful and elegant feel for your wedding film. We choose that style to reflect our passion for cinema and we take this adoration for cinematic styling and bring it to your wedding film, curating a luxurious and timeless feel.

Time

Understand from your videographer the timelines involved in your wedding. This includes a confirmation timeline (how far in advance you need to confirm) and the timeline after the wedding day. How long will it take for you to receive a Trailer Film against a Documentary Film?

Venue Knowledge

Having a videographer that understands your venue or style of venue is helpful when planning your day. Speak to your shortlisted videographers about their previous experience and where they work most frequently. It's also great to get recommendations from your venue.

Understanding How It Works on the Day

Understanding how your videographer will work with you on the day will be a large part of your decision-making process. If you want a relaxed, documentary-style film, then a supplier implementing strict structure and timelines may not be for you.

The way we work at Odicci is to capture authentic moments by working with you to understand the day's plan and using our experience and expertise to intuitively capture what we know you'll love to see.

We collaborate with you to understand your intentions to ensure we create the perfect digital memory for you as a couple.
